Cosecha 2020 42% ABV Nose: Herbal and smokey with a sharp yellow mustard aroma. Green forest vegetation. Sweet and slightly floral. Flavor: Pepper pungency, with medium hot cinnamon. The pepper heat lingers at the back of the throat. Some viscosity and salinity. Oodles of simple sweetness that is accompanied by a bitter note. The smokey flavors do not dominate. Something slightly medicinal. Finish: Short, sweet and simple. I had hoped for more with the Tahona. No wow factor.

Old bottle from before 2008. Quite a bit of Bourbon barrel influence on this with caramel, oak tannin, charred wood, and a seemingly natural sweetness from the agave and aging. A thinnish mouth feel which is good as it says no manipulation. Falls down on the finish for me which is short and not complex at all. 12 or 13 years ago the bottle itself must have appealed to me in the auction listing. This is actually the heavier 800ml MX bottle with shot top, but it's all labeled in English for export. This is interesting certainly in being able to compare to the current products but I don't have any on hand. The one thing I can say is that this very emblematic of the first waves of XA that flooded the premium and ultra premium categories soon after the XA category was created in 2006.

Basic agave aroma with some sweetness. Flavor follows the aroma and adds fruit with little black pepper. Finish is light and very short. Entry tequila for new comers.
