Sample from a friend this is from 7 or so years ago. My initial impressions from last night...sweet, in fact too sweet for me. Nose is medicinal with some minerals. Loads of green agave in the mouth but this reminds me more of the Ocho Curado which has agave syrup added to it. The difference for me between the 2 is the DR has little roasted, caramelized elements to it's sweetness at all. It leaves me wondering how that is possible? Production says stone/brick oven so would have expected more roast agave. The finish is somewhat strange due to that element being missing. It is like the fading taste of a piece of sugar candy
Very strong raw agave aroma. Balanced finish. Clean. Faint cinnamon in the finish.
Mexican 40% abv. versión, lote: LT170718B, bottled on 25/09/2018, tasted on 6-5-24. Aromas: acidity, hint of citrus, wet earth, unnatural sweetness, light chemical smell, green vegetal notes, quite weird combo of aromas overall. Palate: confirms aromas perceived, the light chemical aromas also through my retronasal, ends with a light baijiu distillate aroma through my retronasal, the type with additives. Finish is short to medium, hint of burnt sensation, light unnatural sweetness, hint of baijiu, light green vegetal notes and the chemical sensation persists.
My rating is purely based on the fact it came out and was $700 dollars a bottle for a contract brand tequila. Over 4 months it went from 700 to $549 to $249 to $69. Multiple requests to the brand and tequila aficionado who promotes it for an explanation and received none.
