This one is up there for me. So much funky malo but done well. Priced very well. This brand should be on everyone’s radar

L 1RE46CA - 001 16/02/2023 Color: med golden with thin edge. Initial nasal impact: warming with slight prickle. Aroma: cooked agave, dried pineapple, caramel, green banana, oak, wine barrel, dry toast with orange marmalade. Mouthfeel: drying with generous alcohol. Flavor: cooked agave, pepper, barrel spice, baking spice, orchard fruit, vanilla, spearmint (especially found on the retro nasal), caramel, tangerine. The wine casks are present on a medium long finish.

This one will be polarizing. A lot of funk on the nose with some berry sweetness from French oak. Unusual flavor of bananas, cheese, citrus, maybe a little almond. Finishes a bit hotter than the blanco but still an easy ride for an overprooof. Intriguing reposado and worth trying.

Aroma/Taste: The initial aroma hints at malolactic fermentation, with intriguing notes of Cotija cheese, banana, cooked agave, citrus, and raw yeasty dough. Upon tasting, the flavor profile unfolds with cooked agave, a blend of baking spices, and a touch of vanilla. The barrel aging tempers the lactic funk, resulting in a unique character. Finish: The finish offers a combination of cinnamon and black pepper, but there’s a slight harshness accompanied by a raw agave and solvent punch at the very end. Overall: While not my personal favorite, this tequila intrigues with its divergence between the initial aroma and the subsequent taste experience.

Blind tasting AF Rep samples: Very different. It’s very pungent with a lot of character and funkiness that will not be as pleasing to most palates. I really fell in love with all the flavor. Mushrooms, leather, hay, tangerine & light floral notes. It smells like it tastes. I kept coming back to this sample because it was so different. I rated it as my highest.

Nose- fruity, caramel, cinnamon, agave and slight licorice Taste- On the pallet this one is a little hot not in a bad way. With cinnamon upfront, fruitiness, vanilla and white pepper there’s a slight earthy note that also comes through and last all the way to the end. The way the fruitiness like pitted fruit and vanilla blends together really shines in this one.

Blind rating on 3/25/2024 Aroma: cinnamon at first followed by red fruit. There’s a bit of a spicy aroma along with a cedar/forest wood note. Get a little earthiness too and some baking spice. Kind of reminiscent of the faint smell of Banana bread in the oven. Flavor: interesting fruity dry sweetness. Tropical fruit and some baking spice again. That spicy note pops up again although I can’t put my finger on what it is exactly. There’s a dry sweetness that reminds me of rum. Finish: long with a more fruit forward element. Minimal burn in the lower chest.

Barrel on nose with a sweetness. Palate is enjoyable but didn’t love the finish. Overall was happy with this one. Tasted with AF 2024 Blind Repo.

Tasted blind. Strong aroma—something like cordials candy with a chocolate shell and cherry liqueur inside. Cherry and orange flavor with a thick mouthfeel. Revisited and glad I did. Raising my score. Also had some of their small batch Cellar Series which were my favorite of the lineup!

Cedar wood and resin on the nose. Sipping from a Glencairn brings sweet agave brulee and a great ethanol kick which leads to a whole tongue tingle and a slow sweet finish. Tasted as part of 2024 AF Reposado blind. My highest score given.

Blind- Medium color. Sweet agave stands out in the aroma with hints of anise and citrusy lemon zest. Taste is in line with the aroma and it’s a clean finish.

tasted in panel blind repo tasting 03/2024 was a little too funky for me revisited thanks to a sample Pepe sent me. glad I revisited. I'm liking it a lot more than in the blind samples I did a few months ago, especially the palate and finish. Its less malolactic, nose has some yeast, liking the palate and finish. Lots of barrel spices and agave. so I modified my rating

Again, just like the blanco, the finish is great on this. For a Repo, the oaky notes come off stronger than most. Great for value

Aromas: At 6 months the cooked Agave is still present after using the 3 types of Barrels. Raisin and Prune are very prominent on the nose. There is a Banana scent that sticks out from the top of the Jarrito. Oak, Caramel and Vanilla have their place. Dried Fruits of Candied Orange Peel, Apricot, and Figs definitely add another layer of complexity. After having a chance to open up, Cinnamon and Nutmeg along with a Tobacco emerge. And hanging around all of this is a faint Malolactic note. Taste: The Cooked Agave is immediately delivered with Raisins and Dried Figs. The Oak plays very nicely with a rich Caramel and Toffee along with a sweet Honey flavor that is all accompanied by Vanilla. Dried Fruits of Candied Citrus Peel, Apricot, and Cherry let you know these were definitely wine casks. After a few minutes of opening up, the distinct taste of Spearmint brings a needed herbalness. Towards the end, Baking Spices of Cinnamon, Clove, and Nutmeg blend with Black Pepper Spiciness. And again on the end a light Malolactic touch blends with a light Earthiness. Finish: A very nice long warming pour that is highlighted by the Agave, Dried Fruits and Black Pepper. This is a great example of something that is totally unique, priced well, and just down right delicious! TMM--88 Salud!

I don’t know the piece but love the repo. This one isn’t the cellar series but sensational. Great marriage of barrel and agave. At 46 abv it has great color and not too much barrel. Def worth a try.

There is plenty of the DNA from the Blanco here, but with so much more. There are nice cognac and white wine notes on the nose and the palate. It is a bit more buttery with a soft wet wood note, and then a bit of the mint and pine that is found in the Blanco. Definitely a Repo for lovers of wood, cognac and barrel notes.

Blind taste test Aroma- very unique, anise, leather, old cheese Flavor- Tastes just like it smells, maybe durian? I can’t say I love it, but it stays true. Finish- Just keeps on trucking with the profile adding an alcohol bite and herbal dirt. Overall- Not my favorite, but a very unique tequila.
