Nose: The same cinnamon and brown sugar aroma that I found in the blanco. Additionally, there is lots of punchy minerals, orange peel and citrus notes, and undercurrents of caramel, vanilla and nutmeg. Flavor: Round cinnamon and vanilla laced agave, with white pepper pulling up the rear. A touch of barrel tannins add a little depth to the profile. Finish: Almond and vanilla creaminess with lingering pepper. Pretty big aroma, flavor and mouth feel for a bargain 38% ABV tequila. Note: Points added for value....

Mexican 38% abv. versión, LOTE CCR 40/15, bottled on 31/10/15, tasted on 8-2-24. I tasted this tequila together with Caballito Cerrero reposado from the same NOM bottled in 2012 and they are quite similar. Color: light brown. Aroma: orange blossom, piloncillo, light vanilla, acidity, citrus, light camphor burl wood note, black tea, light orange, after 20 minutes in the glass light cooked agave aroma emerges, minty sensation keeps it fresh, caramelized orange. Light resinous sweetness, light fruitiness, however, wood note also becomes more noticeable. Spicy. Palate: confirms aromas perceived, good sweet sour and acidic balance, spicy, orange through my retronasal, unfortunately wood note is slightly too active and ends slightly dry. Finish is medium to medium long, light cooked agave with light caramelized orange, hint of vanilla, light fruity aromas with light wood note persists.
