Nose; agave / vanilla/ pepper / oak / apple/ pear / grapefruit/ lenongrass/ orange blossom/ chocolate / maple Taste: sweet agave and pepper blast / vanilla/ caramel/ cinnamon/ tea / pineapple/ peach / orange peel / peppermint Finish: sweet agave through and through/ clean low viscosity with an enjoyable peppery finish This extra anejo has some great nose and palate notes. The nose is weak compared to the blast of sweet and pepper on first through last taste. There aren’t very many barrel notes here and it may be that the agave and pepper blast just overwhelm any barrel tastes.

This extra anejo from El Pandillo impressed, and maybe, just maybe showed me that a well aged tequila(3-4 years) can be just as enjoyable as an outstanding blanco or lightly aged expression. On first glance Terralta XA looks unassuming, a very light amber color, but upon closer inspection tartrates are seen dancing throughout the bottle. The nose has a defining bourbon barrel characteristic along with vanilla, dark maple, and cooked agave. The palate has much to unpack; vanilla, caramel, subtle roasted marshmallow, black berry, plum, cooked agave, pepper, oak with a minerality throughout the front, mid, & back palate. A good viscosity and a mid to long finish rounds out this stellar XA. Perhaps my favorite part of this expression is how, although it clearly has an aged profile, Terralta XA sticks to its roots with delicious cooked agave center stage. I was able to pick this up for a very reasonable price, and my value criterion will reflect it(10). This sets the standard for extra anejo tequila. LT0001XA40 25/03/2019

Easy sipping, well balanced XA that is soft enough to let the agave be the star of the show. Nose: cooked agave, oak, cinnamon, vanilla, barrel spices, berries, caramel, butterscotch. Palate: cooked agave, cinnamon, oak, vanilla, caramel, butterscotch, baking spices, and minerals from the use of the deep well water that Terralta is known for. Bonus for value as I was able to get this for $70.

This is excellent great balance between barrel notes and agave with a perfect accent of minerals, well done.

Wonderful nose on this XA. The first aroma is agave which is a nice touch for an XA. Barrel notes of oak, vanilla and caramel follow. Agave is also right up front on the taste. It is oaky with caramel. Get a bit of pepper, too. Tastes of cinnamon and mint. Quite a bit of alcohol on the finish. This drinks more like an Anejo than an XA but to me, that’s not a bad thing.

Immediately on the nose I’m getting Cinnamon and berries, and definitely peaches. Some whiskey, and that Terralta minerality, but not as intense in lesser aged offerings. Butterscotch, Vanilla, not a ton of oak. There’s a lot going on, and this has a very sweet, fruity nose. Almost like bubble gum after it opens up, very fruity. Some molasses. Very complex nose, so much going on. Almost reminds me of a panadería. The tasting is delightful. More agave than the nose suggests but those baking spices, very fruity and surprisingly sweet. I’m getting cherry, butterscotch and vanilla, and the agave comes through more on the finish. Stunning expression from Felipe, this is damn good. I picked it up for $75 and for me, it’s hard to beat that. High points on value for an XA.

Well balanced. Soft Aged Agave, alcohol, lightly sweet. Perfect sipper. Light enough to show the cooked agave.

I’m typically focusing on Blancos and now revisiting this delicious XA, which spotlights how agave forward it is in both aroma and taste. Also present are oak, and hints of caramel and cinnamon. The aroma reminds me of standing inside El Pandillo with freshly cooked agave filling the space. The longer it opens up, the more sensational it becomes.

Aroma : Berries, minerality and baking spices. A hint of black pepper too. Taste : Light cooked agave and cinnamon. Caramel and more baking spices, and somewhat peppery, and some minor oak notes. This is light in flavor. Finish : Long lasting with with stronger emphasis on fruity notes and caramel. Another top tier bottle of Terralta. I really like how this is so light in flavor but offers enough complexity to be a great extra añejo.

Bright lively nose. Ripe red fruit, berries, and peaches. Great depth of aromas with spices, a hint of minerals and a savory note. Flavors: Viscous with agave, cinnamon, dark brown sugar, and the slightest bit of amargo. Finishes harmoniously with pepper, caramel and fruity agave. Medium long in duration.

Like the G4, the Terralta has the light touch on the XA aroma. This one is a bit more stony with a definite minerality upfront. It's always nice when the agave is still present in the aroma of an aged tequila like this. Nice peppery spice upfront that develops some cinnamon and baking spice notes. The finish lingers for a good long time. 12/30/2016 - 4th Annual Xmas XA tasting.

Aroma: Very light and mild. I get a bit of pepper, cinnamon and caramel. Possibly a slight hint of oak. Flavor: Flavor is very similar to the aroma. Bits of pepper with lots of caramel and some oak on the finish. Nothing overpowering and because it's so light I think I even get a bit of agave. Finish: Nice strong finish that's not too overpowering. Very solid.
