Nose: sweet cooked agave/ vanilla/caramel/ butter / cinnamon/ chocolate/ nutmeg/ banana/ apple / plum/ hint of lime / black tea / mint Taste: sweet cooked agave/ vanilla / caramel / cinnamon / pepper/ chocolate/ melon/ orange peel/ nutmeg/ butterscotch/ molasses/ honey / cream soda Finish: so very smooth and sweet / a symphony of unified notes coming together as one melody / a fantastic wet non viscous mouthfeel with a small lingering pepper and cinnamon flavors. This extra anejo is now extremely hard to get and expensive. But this is a real unicorn for the taste experience it brings. It’s worth the price, but that cost is hard to swallow for many. For me, I just had to know…and now, I gotta catch some more to share and enjoy when I want to.
Lote 3 | Lot 3 | TEGR-019 | 30/09/2023 Wow! Such an amazing XA with tons of barrel notes with the agave still being very present. Nose: cooked agave, oak, caramel, vanilla, butterscotch, cinnamon, maple syrup, baking spices, and whiskey. Palate: cooked agave, oak, black pepper, caramel, vanilla, butterscotch, cinnamon, maple syrup, chocolate, and some whiskey. This XA is full of complex aromas and flavors. An extremely enjoyable sipper. You will not be disappointed with this one.
TEGR 011. October 2019. Aroma is excellent with caramel and butterscotch and light pepper. Taste is really smooth with some agave and moderate sweetness. There are some fruit and butter hints as well. The finish is long with good heat but a little sweeter than my regular profile. Thanks Kevin K for the taste!
Lot 3
Lote 2 | TEGR007 28/12/2015 Love the finish. Full of flavor, a bit heavy on the barrel notes. Soft vanilla, butterscotch with presence of cooked agave. A Must try
Lote 3 | Revisiting with Lot 3. Someone said it before and it's true, this is the standard by which all XA's should be measured and compared. Aroma, beautiful baked (not cooked) agave, pumpkin pie spices, wood, apple, caramel. Flavor: Up front is agave, muted pumpkin, apple brandy, burnt brown sugar, oak. It's a beautiful, balanced medley!
Lote 2 | tapatio excelencia lote 2 tasting date Sept 2, 2022 this is one of my favorite tequilas. i think it's THE best XA for the price!!! I could drink this all night! agave, honey, butter, brown sugar, bubblegum indicative of 1139 expressions. yet not overly sweet. highly sippable. great campfire tequila. legs for days. it is SO well balanced. agave, a little heat, sweet, oak, bourbon = delicious!!!!
Lote 3 | An amazing Extra Añejo. When you look at the color it scares you with feels might be an EA that is heavily influenced by the barrel, but that’s not the case. It’s a very well balanced EA where the agave is still present.
Ok been waiting to try this for awhile and im a little disappointed. Dont get me wrong is not bad but I had higher expectations. Smell I got a lot of alcohol at the beginning then wood came out, didn't get any agave. Taste is oak, and mineral finish I get some burn but light
I can’t quit looking at the color in this Riedel glass. Absolutely beautiful. On the nose I get a nice hit of caramel. The taste is a wonderful combination of caramel, oak, and cooked agave. Hardly any heat on this but the finish is a nice lingering warmth. I’ll definitely need to have this one around as an XA that others should be measured against.
Nose: Cooked agave, vanilla, caramel. Lots and lots of cooked agave and caramel. Maple, and caramel apple, and maybe even apple pie. Surprisingly not nearly as much oak as I expected. Palate: Very rich. Loads of cooked agave and that caramel apple note, but it’s sharp almost like a caramel apple candy, sans artificial flavoring. Lots of caramel and agave, keeps coming up for me. Makes me think of apple pie at times. The agave keeps coming back, but it’s alternating between a very crisp agave that I’m used to in Ocho, and then baked/caramelized agave. Overall: An exquisite tequila, and so much different than the rest of the Tapatio line. I have a soft spot in my heart for Tapatio, it was the first blanco I drank straight and I’ve always had a deep love for as being one of the catalysts for me becoming a tequila lover. Excellent tequila. I will say, I prefer anejos over XA, so far, but there’s no doubt that this is probably top 3 tastiest in my collection. If Terralta XA wasn’t $75 near me, I’d probably not even both trying anything else.
Lote 2 | Batch 2 Lot 15. Beautiful nose. Agave comes through nicely even after all this time. Nice wood on the pallet. Little pricey but a staple tequila and one of the finest available that should be in everyone's collection
On the nose I get vanilla and caramel along with some oak and a little agave. The taste is well balanced with oak, agave, subtle sweetness, and just the right amount of heat to keep it interesting.
Aromas of wet cardboard (that's a good thing), leather, oak, and sandlewood with light tobacco. Taste is not as woody as it smells but still a definite XA character. Dark fruits, wood, and agave. This one just begs to be cuddled by a chiminea with pinion wood burning on a cool night. A nice cigar with it would be the coup de gras of a perfect night. Faint flavor of pine as it opens up after a few days.
Smell is good.. oak, agave, a pepper (like jalapeño). Taste is the same. Light oak and vanilla with a peppery punch. It last on the tongue for a little put it’s really good.
Wood and Agave on the nose, agave, butterscotch and caramel on the flavor. very long finish. Outstanding XA
Lote 2 | Lote TEGR 008 from Batch 2. 02/01/2018 The nomenclature gets confusing here. There is a difference between bottling lotes and production lotes. Nose: Dried fruit: citron and dried apricots. Light colored tree fruit, ripe berries and peaches, warm barrel spice, vanilla and a light and airy floral aroma. Some herbals. Flavor: Fruity, sweet, oily and spicy. Significant oak influence. Soft and round vanilla and butterscotch notes. Buttery with some pepper tingle. The agave still punches through all the barreling notes. This is one of those rare tequilas that you use as a benchmark. Quality through and through.
Lote 3 | Lot 12. Worth the wait for me. Oak, Carmelized agave, butterscotch, baking spice (cinnamon), melon and pear. Damn.
Lote 3 | Aroma : Apricot and pear, some cooked agave, spice, oak, almond. Taste : Medium/full bodied with some fruity notes I mentioned like apricot, pear, maybe some apple. Nice cooked agave sweetness compliments not overly sweet vanilla. Also some notes of almond, dark chocolate and oak. Finish : Medium/long with stronger notes of oak, also some richer vanilla. Almond and dark chocolate, and a touch of agave. This is a complex extra añejo with plenty of notes that work well to give you an authentic experience you just don't get with other tequilas. My only complaints are that it isn't as oily as I would like, and not the greatest value due to the price.
This Excelencia Gran Reserva by Tapatio is a treat. This sipper smells as good as it tastes. The nose starts with oak but the cooked agave quickly punches through. There are also hints of sweetness. It reminds me of a caramel crème brûlée. I definitely nose this tequila several times before I dive in and taste it. I then taste the cooked agave and oak simultaneously with the agave giving way to a long oaky sweet warm finish. The lingering taste is nice since this tequila is so well made. I would recommend that you allow this tequila to finish out a nice tequila flight. The price brought the rating down a little bit but I’d still highly recommend that you find it for the best price possible and go for it. “You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.” Wayne Gretzky
Excellent extra anejo. Unique and complex nose with agave, orange peel, peach, and oak. Flavor picks up most of the same, with heavier wood tones on the way down. Aged a long time producing a dark color, but still retains its agave and doesn’t get too sweet. This girl has nice legs too.
Lote 3 | Purchased at the distillery, so priced way lower than in the states .
Lote 2 | On the nose beautiful caramel, vanilla, some coffee and cacao, all wrapped around an intense cooked agave aroma. On the palate a nice wood note, with vanilla and some cacao. Intense cooked agave presence, just a little spice and alcohol tingling on the front. Very balanced and oily. Just the right amount of sweetness, less compared to Lot and. A long agave and spice finish complete this amazing sipping experience and you just want to dive back in for another round. This is what I imagine to be agave heaven!
Musty aroma, vegetal/earthy flavor

Heavenly nose that even though it has been in a barrel a long time stills brings out agave. I get cinnamon and caramel and plum. The taste is so delicious. Agave on the tongue with cinnamon. Vanilla comes through beautifully in the finish. I get chocolate, and cherries. Honey and maybe a touch of orange. The finish is lingering and so delicious. What a prize tequila to taste.
