2018 this was an older bottle from a few years ago
I’m rating an old bottle that’s much tastier than the current product.
This was a staple of tequila sipping in the late 80s and early 90s and I had my fair share. This sample was from the late 80s and provided by a friend. Light in color yet with nice spice on entry this 70-30 extra aged Tequila mixto feels nice in the mouth and has enough agave in the mix to taste like Tequila with natural sweetness, barrel spice and a nice ethanol presence.
Surprisingly great for a $20 bottle of anejo
Hace tiempo, cuando era 51% agave y había exceso de tequila por la poca demanda (2009-2011), lo hicieron 100% de agave sin cambiarle la etiqueta de 51% agave: mejor calidad del producto, que lo que anunciaban.
1990s sample. Notes of solvent and acetone. No barrell presence.
Nostalgic for me
Soft, candy nose. Gold color - a bit off-putting to me in a Jose Cuervo kinda way. Thin mouthfeel. Not terribly bad, but not really good. Totally one dimensional. Mildly sweet with an astringent character in taste and in the finish.
Unfortunately, the way I am forced to rate this tequila makes it seem as though this is a favored tequila, but this tequila gets a lot of points specifically for things like value. In the end, I’ve not had a better anejo at this particular price point. Hope I can.
Not much flavor or bite to this, but for a bottom shelf tequila, it's palatable. A serviceable mixer or low-priced well liquor. Price is the main attraction here.
1980s juice**** NOM 1102-I Nose- candy like.. new one for me. Marzipan, honey. Pepper , bit of heat on 1st taste. A lot different than what we enjoy today. Nice viscous juice.
This was a 20+ year old bottle I found. NOM 1102-i. Wasn’t great but not bad either. A small vision of what Sauza used to be.
Brown flat bottle, 1 liter, steel twist cap with fun stopper, 38% abv. Color: light yellow. Nose: light cooked agave, light wood spice, light vanilla, light citrus. Palate: light cooked agave, soft wood spice, light vanilla, good balance but too soft. Finish is short, light cooked agave and light vanilla flavors persist.
Nose of oak, vanilla and citrus. Similar flavors as well. Decent sipper and a nice mixer.
average Delicious. UMAMI good feeling.
It’s a great tequila for mixing and taking shots, but not the best for sipping. For about $40 and 1.75L it’s a great deal.
Aroma: woody, hints of vanilla Flavor: wood with a bite Finish: dry burn finish
A good drink for a great price. Sauza is a standard and example of what a traditional tequila should be. A nice oak smell, mixed with pleasant balance of agave. A strong presence of agave in the initial taste, soon warms up an smooths out in the back of the mouth for a warm finish. Traces of pear are initial and linger in the middle of the mouth. Traces of oak but plenty of spiciness. Exceptionally refreshing!
Nice aroma but can tell on the taste that it’s not a premium..
Back in the day, this is all we would drink. That was in the classic brown bottle. Nothing around except for Cuervo, Sauza and maybe Herradura. They switched to a mixto in a new bottle which was pretty poor. Now they have gone back to 100%(again?). Pretty thin, not much bite, low flavor and very little finish. A great Margarita and mixing tequila and shots for your cheap seat friends:)
As far as mixtos go, this really isn't a bad option.

A very light amber in the glass. Aroma of rubbing alcohol, vanilla and a hint of oak. Not getting agave on the nose. Flavor of black pepper, oak, cooked agave and vanilla. Finish didn't last long.
