Nose: A touch of agave with earth and pepper upfront. Mild fruity undertone with lime. Something unnatural about it this pour that I can’t quite put my finger on. Palate: Mild cooked agave, earth, pepper, grape skins. Nothing special here. If you look deep enough you can find some unnatural elements.

A disappointing agave & ethanol nose leads to an agave, vanilla and peppery palate. The texture, thin & finish fleeting.

Nothing remarkable about this but a solid tequila. Notes of vanilla, citrus, pepper over shadows the agave a little. Would use this more as a mixer but not bad as a lower end sipper.

Aroma of cooked agave, pineapple and pepper. Flavor of agave and pepper. Medium finish.

Revised score (down a few points). Ok blanco if you want to mix drinks. Do not sip this with the agave funk on the aroma and taste.

Very muted nose. Aroma was that of olive brine, slightly metallic, earthy, butter and agave. The aromas were rather hidden. On the palate was alcohol, bread, cooked agave, wood, dried fruit and glycerin. This is ine that you really need to open up. The longer the exposure to air, the more flavors came out. It was absolutely devoid of any lingering finish whatsoever. Like it never even happened.

One of the first tequilas that I loved, that bubblegum taste in the background can be recognized a mile away. Green and black peppercorn, citrus rind, yummy all around!

Nose: Almost a dusty suggestion. Lemon, pepper, alcohol and fruitiness. Taste: Agave, anise, cinnamon, sweet notes and black pepper.

I'm surprised I never rated this tequila until today! Great brand. Ok for sipping, but best mixed.

Bottled on 06/06/01. Slight tint to this as it must have rested for a short time prior to bottling. Big agave nose, oily mouthfeel and just nice overall. I wish Herradura would get back to making tequila like this. Losing the diffusor is a start.

Rated blind after aeration. Glass: sheets to lots of small pearls and short legs. Aroma: grass, agave, alcohol. Entry is thin and slightly sweet, quickly changing to a hit of green agave, and bursts into huge pepper that recedes quickly leaving light pepper, moist and slightly numb.

Now that I'm all about Blancos I've come to appreciate this one a little more...

Since I taste these tequilas blind, I do this whole rating things backward. I profile first then I do the basic rating. The nose was pretty standard, nothing to write home about. The flavor profile however, did not really match up with the aromas. On top of that it has a funky-chemically thing that first hits the palate then fades into a lot of bitter notes. While the texture was soft and in the end it was an "easy tequila to drink", the bitterness really put me off. When I found out that this was Herradura (which was poured from THE bottle that was served to the 2011 Spirits of Mexico Tasting Judges), I was actually surprised as this blanco tasted and smelled better than my previous experience with this blanco - which was as a judge at the 2011 New Mexico Intimate Tequila Tasting. Great history, tradition, and Hacienda San Jose del Refugio is beautiful, I'm just wish Herradura would put product before profit.

Somehow, I never liked the Blanco. But the reposado is a Standard in my Collection.

Not a sipper for me, needs more aroma and agave flavor for that. Good mixer. I would like this for Botanga’s or Paloma.

It’s ok. Mixes great. Not great on its own, but it’s alright I guess.

Some citrus and vanilla notes. Not really complex with an ok finish. Would work well in a mixer.

Review #162 - Herradura Silver Tequila Blanco

This many reviews and I've never review a tequila from the Herradura line? That doesn't seem possible. It's about time I got around to doing it...and it tells you how many wonderful tequilas there are out there.
