Tasting this from Mike Bucca's collection. Interesting reposado that has some bitterness and a short finish holding it back from a higher score.
Smells like vanilla, that’s bizarre considering it’s a Blanco but hence the power of additives! Lots of sweetness going on and a sharp drop off to a hot finish. On a side note I like that these guys are doing different vintages and stamping the bottles, too bad they aren’t letting the agave do the talking.
Mexican 38% abv. versión, Cosecha: La Copalera 2005, if this was the agave harvest date and not the agave planting date, what were they waiting for to release it? Because the marbete is from 2012! Tasted on 4-8-24. Color: yellow. Aroma: light cooked agave, hint of raw agave, hint of vanilla, slightly earthy, light wood note, light acidity, hint of dirt. Slightly minty, hint of black pepper. Palate: confirms aromas perceived, however sourness slightly dominates palate and ends slightly bitter, wood note is quite dominating. Finish is medium to medium long, hint of raw agave, hint of vanilla, hint of earthiness and dominating wood notes persist.
