Nose is bright, floral agave, some cotton candy notes, light caramel even, very similar to the blanco, so very nice. On the pallet butter cream agave at first, then a beautiful pepper spice, i assume partially from the rum cask, and the finish is more of a sweet/pepper mix, almost like a lemon pepper almost which is a carribean spice, all in all a very nice tequila, definite buy if you see it.

Aroma: cooked agave, apple, cinnamon, vanilla, oak, earth, toffee, salinity, black pepper. Flavor: oak, tobacco, apple, raisin, cooked agave, earth, black pepper. Finish lingers but doesn’t overwhelm and there’s a nice warmth but it doesn’t drink hot or burn. Texture is soft but present.

Incredibly delicious. This beckons sip after sip. Nuts, cinnamon, a little char on the nose. Flavors of cooked agave, eucalyptus, and burnt sugar. Super balanced and the rum casks give this an unusual zing that’s really memorable. Terrific effort for their first-ever reposado.

I had the privilege of tasting this alongside Matt Robertson & JP Diz on prerelease. This single barrel Reposado threw me for a loop, especially tasting it alongside Ensueño’s barrel rested blancos. On the nose I found tobacco, molasses, overripe pineapple, citrus rine, a strange syrupy thing I could not put my finger on and cooked agave. On the palate I found some barrel spice, cooked tropical fruits, coconut copra, light minerality, fresh orange, rich vanilla, burnt sugars with subtle notes of cut grass & herbs. The finish brought about more caramelized sugars and black pepper with hints of brine. The complexity of flavors within this single barrel along with its stunning aroma make this my favorite Ensueño release to date. In the past I’ve appreciated Ensueño’s unique approach to barrel resting their blancos. Staying true to the spirit of a great highlands blanco, while lightly influencing the profile with unmistakeable bourbon characteristics. For their debut Reposado release, I was pleased to find that Ensueño kept that same agave forward montra while throwing a new aged profile into the mix. Instead of ex-Weller barrels, this Reposado is aged exclusively in ex-Appleton rum barrels and the difference, of course, is night and day.

My brother Jordan and I were blessed to receive a bottle of the new Ensueño Caribbean Rum Rested Repo. Ensueño has always been one of our favorite brands with their 4 batch releases of their blanco in Ex - Weller 12 Barrels. Crazy what a different amount of days rested can influence on an expression within days of each other! Now they have released this ex Appleton barrel Repo… and lord have mercy Ensueño has done it again. Obviously very different from their blanco due to barrel influence. Nose: Minerality, tropical fruits, char / burnt smell to it can’t put my finger on it. Taste: Minerality, tropical fruits, cooked sugars, vanilla, barrel spices like a rum! So good, ensueño is so unique and continue to change the game!
