This is a different profile full of smoke and fruit and agave and somehow it all works too give a pleasant flavor.
Nose: Gentle smoke, fruit and earthiness. Citrus rind and spiciness. A caramel/vanilla undercurrent. A slight sour note. The smokiness is not overpowering. It is well integrated into the aroma as a whole. Flavor: A big punch of pepper on entry, with accompanying bold anise. Oily, buttery, sweet fruit notes and agave. There is a butterscotch, caramel, toffee thing going on. The pop of pepper lingers but marries well with viscous sweetness. Neither the 50.5% ABV, nor the mesquite smokiness seem to be out of synch. This coats the entire palate and has staying power in the finish.
Very good. Smokey, earthy, and agave.very similar tasting to mezcal. Truth be told though, for the price I would rather get a mezcal.
A beauty at 105 proof, just the right amount of smoke and balance citrus notes. A little pricey but a special bottle from the makers of Patron
Nice creamy mouth feel. Rich cooked agave and butter leading to a lingering smokey finish. Pricey!
I love the premise of this product, it has all the enticing qualities of blue agave with a medium dose of smoke. I get a healthy hit of caramel which is odd considering it’s not barrel aged. Overpriced as fuck but I like it!
Gentle smoke, slight cheese & earthy aromas but it's the agave that shines above all. Loving the aroma. Smoke gentle on the nose, but much more prominent in the flavor, yet still allows the agave to come through loud and strong. This is a perfect balance between agave and smoke. Oily mouthfeel and creamy finish. The finish has nice waves of complexity as it slowly fades. Well done! (It would have rated even higher for value if the price was a bit lower.)
Sweet, slow-cooked agave, smoke and herbal and earth notes with a rounded, flavorful mouthfeel. The sweet agave flavor is followed - and balanced- by a smoky finish that lingers pleasantly. Highly drinkable for 50.5 abv. Well-crafted product that feels like an elegant, long-ago tequila, and not a mezcal. The mature blue agave is the star of this smoky show.
nasty smell Taste- burns . high rooof meaning more alcohol . and less water concentrated finish- burns cooked like a mezcal but not a mezcal. cooked underground everything traditional that a mezcal has but it ain’t a mezcal
Purchased Gran Patron Smoky Silver after viewing an impressive video of the production of Gran Patron Smoky filmed by Grover highlighting the movements by a handful of tequila brands to return to the “artisanal” methods of production, including the cooking (hydrolysis) of the agave in underground earthen pits- in the manner that mezcal is still produced today. As anticipated, the nose and mouthfeel is distinctively smoky, accompanied by cooked agave, earth, vegetal, citrus, grassy, alcohol, buttery and soft peppery notes. Though a enjoyable product, unfortunately this move to a labor intensive “artisanal” tequila has the unintended consequences of increased costs associated with the benefit of a smoky nose and palate which is on the edge of the spectrum for everyday tequila consumers. If you fancy smoke, this tequila will delight.
LOTE SMO L21078PA702 14:25, bottled on 0010718. Aroma: at the beginning it was not expressive, 15 minutes later in the glass it opens up but a light smokiness is present, cooked agave, minty, light citrus, it has a light aromatic honey like aroma. Green melon. Palate: cooked agave, earthiness, minty freshness, light honey like sweetness, though agave notes are not very expressive. Finish is long, smoked agave notes persist.
Not my personal favourite but would definitely recommend for someone who likes mezcal normally
Bottle: Lote: SMO 0010718, 1800122, 1011 - Certification of Hand Bottling: No 9881 PM Appearance: Clear Aroma: Cooked agave, smoke, tobacco, ethanol, black pepper, mesquite, dry earth, clove, citrus, orange peel, lemon, grapefruit, black tea, molasses, butter, pine tree, toasted bread, fig, raisin, and apple…solid nose Palate: Smoke, cooked agave, ethanol, mesquite, charcoal, citrus, orange peel, grapefruit, lemon, black tea, pine tree, butter, black pepper, clove, earth, tobacco, apple, molasses, lactic, peppermint, and toasted bread…I’m really enjoying this Finish: Smoke, cooked agave, ethanol, jalapeño, cinnamon, and mesquite…long, smoky, and savory Overall: I love smoky spirits, and this is a great one. The smoke presence isn’t acrid, artificial-tasting, or overwhelming, but is readily apparent throughout. It doesn’t have the same complexity I’d expect from a mezcal, but it would be a great introduction for an adventurous palate curious to explore earthen pit agave cooking…that is, if you can find it and/or justify the price tag.
Close to a Mezcal but retains Tequila essence.
Smoke pepper cooked earth
This is very good, I liked it, I’m also perpetually a bit confused by the making of ancestral style Tequilas with very high retail prices in the context of availability of tons of great Mezcals for pretty low prices. Sort of like the bar by my house who is all excited about their smoked tequila cocktail and I’m like, y’know Mezcal exists already right, you could just save a lot of trouble and pour from that bottle over there.
Nice agave , great smoke , citrus , vanilla , oak , caramel . A nice offering from patron .
Smokey aroma Less intense than mezcal Cooking makes Smokey
taste like a smoked whiskey with sugar finish.
Sweet smelling smoke. Oaky, little fruity and floral Smoke. Doesn't hit right away. But lingers. Starts out sweeter and mellow. But blooms to nice rounded smoke flavour.
Smells like Tobacco and masculine vanilla. VERY leathery finish
Aroma - smoke, grass, raw agave Flavor - smoke, vegetal, pepper Finish - sweet, smokey, smooth
delicious sweet agave forward, good heat to follows. distinct mesquite smokiness, no doubt from the earthen pit. amazing mouth feel. packaging is gorgeous. a little simple overall, but easily one of the best tequilas I've ever had. absolute masterpiece from patron.
Almost mezcal like, but definitely tequila notes. Never knew this existed before seeing it out at a restaurant and it was worth $35 a pour.
Patrón, and Lunazul join Siembra Valles with earthen pit-cooked tequilas.

This profile surprised me, tasted in a blind tasting
