green agave, astringent, bitter. perfect example of diffuser made tequila. no character, no complexity, no depth of flavor. Note: this was before they switched to stone/brick oven. Will reevaluate when the new version is available

Smells like cheap wine (as if it was stored in metal tanks); probably comes from the distillation process. Astringent flavor.

Has that distinct diffuser smell to it, although not as strong as some others. Also has yeast, tails and mint aromas. If you didn’t know this was tequila you may have confused it with a white wine based on the aroma. Kinda weird.

Purchased at the GO for around 20 bucks, looks to be an older label than what’s current. Poured in glencarin glass. Appearance- clear, brilliant Aroma- golden raisin, cooked agave Taste- watermelon rind, tart cherry, bright back end, a little pink peppercorn. Not bad, wouldn’t pay more than 20 for it.

Very spicy taste on initial opening. Mellowed out after tequila sat in glass for awhile

first of all, "tequila match" seems to have their information wrong on this tequila. This tequila is slow cooked in a horno for 72 hours and hand chopped with hatchets. no diffuser, no autoclave, no mill. Maybe the recipe changed? the packaging has changed since "tequila match" was updated last. on the nose I got notes of clay, ripe agave, black pepper and a touch of oak. the palate is peppery with delecate floral notes. there is a little bit of wood on the palate as if they ferment in wooden fermenters or let is rest after distillation in wooden vats for a couple days. the juice is still perfectly clear. for a $30 artisanal tequila this is an amazing value and highly recommend it.

New Booze: Don Roberto Tequila

A week or so ago I attended the San Francisco launch event for Don Roberto tequila, hosted by Junior Merino at Cantina. Don Roberto is made by the Orendain family in the lowlands of Jalisco, Mexico in the town of Tequila, at the La Purisima distillery.
