Lacks complexity, flavor profile is too flat

As a fan of of high proof blancos, this one doesn’t disappoint. I was skeptical going in, but the agave shows through despite the heat. Alcohol does not dominate this and natural sugars in the hydrolysis process shine. Raw and cooked agave give way to herbs, mint and citrus. Surprisingly good juice.

What’s not to love?!? This is the way tequila was meant to be enjoyed, straight from the still before any thoughts about brand or marketing begin. Loads of roasted agave on the nose and mid palette, great injection of grapefruit rind on the finish.

Green agave and alcohol in the nose. Aroma simple, not complex at all. Sweet flavor, too sweet for me. Finish remains in the front and sides of my mouth, medium length, but with a slight chemical aftertaste. Hardly anything in the throat.

Nose is lively, lemony and complex. Some mineral notes. Cinnamon and anise. Big agave notes with a mushroom nuance. Flavors of ripe cooked agave, white pepper and citrus. Very focused flavors, but a pretty hot attack in total. Nice oiliness. On a revisit 9/3/2018, I am finding that there is an odd aftertaste in the sweetness? And beware, this does finish with an alcohol blast on the hot side.

55% ABV means a big punch in the mouth from this still strength blanco. This isn't just about ethanol as this juice has agave on the nose, agave in the mouth and agave on the finish. Big fruit notes along with roast agave dominate the taste and the ABV means a long tingly finish. Bought this in Mazatlan for less than $40 US. It usually is $90 or so which means higher score for value.

Lote: 16061F3251, approved on: 07/12/15, bottled on 01-03-2016. Aroma: cooked agave with a whiff of salt, slightly acidic, cinnamon, feels thick & oily, herbaceous, slightly minty, alcohol sensation feels much lower than its 55% abv. Palate: light sweet cooked agave, cinnamon, a touch of salt, aromatic earth, at the end it has a light lactic note, slightly herbaceous. Finish is long, solid cooked agave and light herbaceous notes persist. I feel it is natural.

I get a lot of mint and cinnamon in this. Maybe some peppermint as well. I like this better than the normal line up.

Strong alcohol presence overwhelms the aroma. After it opens up for 20 minutes or so, it's a nice sweet flavor with heat on the palate. Hot short finish.

Overpowering alcohol taste, had this one on New Years back in like 2019. Wish I could have saved my money.

Good tequila but falls a bit on the score because of price and value and recommendability.

My second favorite “directo del alambique”. Be patient. This type of tequilas are strong at first but the agave flavor is deeper than in tequilas with lower alcohol levels.

Aroma of cooked agave. Flavor of agave and black pepper. Surprisingly not too hot considering it is 55%. Medium finish.

Can definitely tell it’s overproof! After the heat there is a great agave profile with a menthol aftertaste. Still hot to finish

Hot on the nose as expected with 55% but it helps drive the cooked agave home through the aroma. Nice mouthfeel, surprisingly not crazy spicy. Agave sweetness with light pepper and citrus. A little burn on the back end, not for everyone.

Strong tequila for sure, agave everywhere, some notes of pepper and citrus.

This Tequila is strong but the flavor and finish are outstanding! If you eat Mexican food with it, the flavor cuts through with magnificent eloquence and rhymes with the food.

I typically like still strength / high ABV Blancos. when done right you get a mouthful of agave and complex flavors that are sometimes hidden in 80 proof varieties. that said, this is a high ABV gone bad IMO. At 55% / 110 proof it drinks more like a moonshine than a fine tequila. it may be the high alcohol or it could be simply the tequila lacks complex flavors to carry the higher ABV. I let it air out a bit to be sure I gave this one a fair shake. i get little agave and high sweetness combined with over powering alcohol. the aroma doesn't have much to out and the finish is weak. luckily i picked it up in MX for 36 USD vs 84 in the states. leaving this one behind

Bottle 01851, dated 10/1/15; Strong alcohol scent on the nose, slight agave, but the alcohol is overwhelming, definitely 110 proof; clean on the front of the tongue; burns across the palette; I cannot get a sense of much flavor; even if it was cheaper, I would not purchase again.

I think I've missed something here!! The nose was only alcohol which I thought might be the glass I was using (fluted top)... first sip came in hot could definitely taste the higher ABV.. Thought a few cubes of ice would tone it down or bring something out but not to be.. finish was harsh.. got no agave joy from this! Had to drink an Angels Envy just to forget this one..
