Damp wood and Christmas spice on the nose. Abruptly boozy at the beginning that mellows a tad in the finish, this is not for the week of heart. Perfect product to end an evening with. The big win here is the presence of agave under earth all that oak layering, this is a well made Tequila that will shine when presented to traditional whisky drinkers.

tasting at chris porters 10/22 artenom 1146 anejo this was at the end of tasting 10-12 other tequilas. I liked this but think it might be better on its own after opening up so will revisit at another time

The first hit on the aroma is caramelized plum, with secondary notes of brown sugar and vanilla. The flavor follows through with the same notes of brown sugar combined with baking spices, which come through strong and identifiable at the end. The finish is a burst of anise blended with cinnamon sticks, and a port wine sweetness.

Story: Añejo expression of the ArteNOM line, made in the same distillery as Tears of Llorona, Cimarron, Fuenteseca and Don Fulano. Aroma: Lots of pepper, touch of mint, fruity. Caramel and agave, definitely very prominent whiskey notes. Banana, very light ethanol. Vanilla when I tip my glass just right. A little water brings out butterscotch near the end. Wow, this aroma is very complex. Palate: Instantly hit with sweet caramel and pepper. Cooked agave, and that whiskey note coming through. I’m getting only a faint hint of vanilla, but it’s there. Definitely fruity, though I can’t pinpoint a specific fruit. Verdict: Interesting, a tasty tequila, and one I would recommend trying. It won’t be a staple in my bar, but when I’m looking for something fruity and peppery, I’ll reach for this.

Nose: Initially I was hit with French oak and some lumberyard oak aromas. Given a little breathing time, rich sweet notes emerged: butterscotch, dark chocolate, vanilla, cafe con leche, and the slightest hint of maple. Herbal/earthy root cellar aromas, thyme and green pepper mingle with spicier notes of finely ground white pepper, orange rind, nutmeg, cloves and powdered ginger. A pleasing marriage of scents. Flavor: Spicy zing enveloped in sweet, buttery, agave richness. Caramel, toffee and almond paste. Grapefruit zest and oranges. Lots of facets... Finish lingers.

Balanced, not overly sweet. Agave and oak showing well together. Big mouth feel, strong barrel notes, Carmel, cooking spice. Well balanced

Aroma : Vanilla, caramel, and light cinnamon. There is also some oak, orange, and butter. Taste : Lots of oak, along with some chocolate, toffee and berry fruitiness. Light butter and orange here as well. This is a good balance between sweet and spicy, while still letting you get the full complexity of each side. Finish : Long with stronger notes of vanilla, berry, and oak. There is a lot going on here. It's obvious there is a ton of complexity with this one to the extent that if someone told me this was an extra añejo, I'd probably believe them. Some may find the oak overpowering, but that's why you have to give tequilas like these time to open up, otherwise you'll miss out.

Another 1146 gem. I Always keep one in my stash. ArteNom came out strong out of the gate w/ their 1079 release. This is Agave forward with notes of candied walnuts, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, yams, mocha, leather, with a hint of smoke. Kinda goes down like an XA. Damn solid stuff.

This is a barrel heavy influenced tequila that does it the right way. Caramel and baking spice notes are very present, but without losing the agave essence. It's a touch pricey, but also unique.

You can really appreciate the wood on the nose. Smells like a good humidor; makes me want to grab a cigar. Unique flavor from the triple barrel aging. Detect something like Sherry. Very smooth.

This low score maybe the result of my high expectations. I found nothing extraordinary about this tequila . Disappointing .

Aroma: I get a strong note of coffee and berry. There is also a hint of caramel and oak. It's super complex. Every time I go back I get a different note. Flavor: For me this is pretty barrel heavy. I get a lot of oak with a subtle hint of chocolate. I was hoping for something more complex an in line with the aroma. Finish: The finish is pretty complex. It goes up and down and lingers for a while.

Light vanilla aroma and less barrel than the reposado. Sweet, fruity flavor and pleasant lingering finish. Great cold weather tequila (noted on 12-23-2012).

Cooked agave on the nose with a nutty sweetness. Some oak and a touch of chocolate as well. Light mouthfeel, but the flavor is delicious. Plenty of agave, but it gives way to a little bit of minerality. Long, warm finish. Top notch anejo.

Aroma is strong vanilla, slight hint of caramel. Flavor is vanilla and immediately to a pepper end. Finish is agave and a slight spice. I think the price is a bit high for $83.99 but I do like the quality of this añejo compared to chamucos añejo.

A cool idea for a brand and tequila from a great distillery. I had to give it a try.
