Nose: Ripe fruit with an almost grape/wine-like aroma. Barrel spices: prominently cloves, cinnamon , ginger and vanilla. Freshly cut grass and earth. Flavors: Creamy caramel, vanilla and white chocolate. Warming barrel spices noted on the nosing carry through to the attack. A fair amount of bourbon/whisky presence follows, with light pepper.

Nose: This commences without fanfare for me, delivering aromas of fresh oak chips and unripe green pears. Given a few minutes, this opens up to berry notes, cinnamon and cloves, and some earthiness. Flavor packs much more pungency than the nose. Initial cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and white pepper slowly yields to vanilla and leather notes, with some bitterness. Finishes in pretty short order, with the additions of black pepper and almonds.

Dark coppery color. Nose: Ripe pitted fruit (peaches and apricots), dried prunes, light oak and barrel spices, vanilla, floral and perfume like notes, and some musty earthiness. Flavors: Peachy almond pit note, caramel, moderate black pepper, warming baking spices and some tannic bitterness. Finish: Nice lingering mouth feel. An elegant dessert accompaniment. The price point is a bit high for this bottling.

NOM 1459. Mexican bottling at 38% Nose: Caramelized agave, a suggestion of canned applesauce laced with cinnamon, artichoke and light pepper. Flavor: The nose belies the punch that this tequila delivers in the mouth. Spicy black pepper with some bitterness, cinnamon and cloves and a sweet note I cannot pinpoint. I purchased this tequila thinking that it was from #1531. Santo Coyote has apparently moved back to #1459, where they now sport a fancy new bottle and a hefty price tag. Quite a disappointment.
